Debunking the half-truths and exaggerations in the Truth and Reconciliation Report
The following June 4, 2015 opinion piece in a leading national newspaper, written by yours truly in collaboration with Rodney A. Clifton, editor of groundbreaking 2021 collection From Truth Comes Reconciliation, was the first critical evaluation of the Final Summary Report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s study of the Indian Residential Schools written by anyone.
It was first re-published in this newsletter in January 2022 but received little attention because this site was less than two weeks old.
I re-post it again as an end-of-year special because it’s just as timely as ever.
It will be accompanied by two related pieces that will quickly follow in half-day intervals.
