Cory Morgan — a senior Alberta columnist and the host the Cory Morgan Show for the Western Standard and Alberta Report and previously the Western Standard’s opinion editor — hits all the nails squarely on their rusty head in the straightforward and thoughtful editorial on the other side of the paywall.
Still, the changes he proposes and others like it would require amending the Canadian constitution to remove all mention of indigenous people including the abrogation of the Royal Proclamation of 1763.
This would be a difficult but not impossible task.
Following that, Pierre Trudeau’s 1969 White Paper whose aim was to emancipate indigenous people from their bondage under the treaties and Indian Act would have to be dusted off, a less difficult undertaking. But like a proposal for constitutional refer, it would also provoke tremendous push-back from the predatory Indian Industry which would be economically devastated should these necessary changes ever occur.
