The hard-hitting opinion piece on the other side of the paywall was written by Colin Alexander, former publisher of the Yellowknife News of the North. He was also the adviser on education for Ontario’s Royal Commission on the Northern Environment.
Alexander argues the federal Liberal government’s Action Plan for aboriginal self-determination, based on the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), is a death sentence for burgeoning next generations of the marginalized indigenous when he asks, “… do Canadians espouse indigenous tribalism? Why do we withhold the respect for the individuals that enabled the Enlightenment? Why do we repudiate the principle applicable for everyone else, that a Canadian is a Canadian is a Canadian?”
This must read-piece is re-posted in its entirety on the other side of the paywall with Alexander’s kind permission.
