The clear plan of our founders — and the plan that was accepted by Canadians until around 1996 when RCAP promoted its “nation to nation” plan was to have indigenous Canadians assimilate and become successful citizens. After 1996 “assimilate” became a bad word for indigenous Canadians and was conflated with “forced assimilation”. This is nonsense. All ethnic Canadians “assimilate” while preserving as much of their culture as they care to. This universally accepted plan has been ruined for indigenous Canadians who have now been brainwashed into thinking of themselves as victims oppressed by colonizers. As a result most remain far behind, while their “leaders” exploit weak politicians and gullible judges. We have only ourselves to blame for not listening to prophets like Peter Best

I'm retired now but a former coworker was telling me the RCMP's internal network for training courses is now serving up land acknowledgements at the beginning of mandatory training courses.

The level of insanity needed to think that's appropriate is pathological.
