The opinion piece on the other side of the paywall is yet another excellent discussion of the outstanding political accomplishments of Canada’s first Prime Minister, Sir John A. Macdonald, on behalf of aboriginals.
It should be incomprehensible, if not heartbreaking, for anyone familiar with REAL Canadian history — as opposed to its contemporary mythological re-writing — that Macdonald is now falsely vilified as a foe of these same indigenous people when the reverse is true not the least because the actual current enemies of ordinary aboriginals are many of their own self-serving leaders, aided and abetted by highly paid activists, predatory lawyers, greedy consultants, hyper-woke academics, and feckless politicians.
This essay needs to be read alongside the three others cited below that also offer a far more nuanced and historically grounded account of the life and times of Canada’s founding Prime Minister than the narrow, defamatory, decontextualized, and downright fallacious ones peddled by biased critics consumed with left-wing presentism. All were previously re-posted on this site but are listed as follows where they were first published.
Sir John A. Macdonald Versus the Historically Challenged. Robert MacBain, September 2, 2017.
Sir John A. Macdonald Saved More Native Lives Than Any Other Prime Minister. Greg Piasetzki, November 27, 2020.
Six ways to erase Sir John A. Macdonald in time for his 208th birthday. Patrice Dutil, Jan 12, 2023.
Written by retired Province of Manitoba judge and prolific editorial writer Brian Giesbrecht, the following piece was originally published by a national media house on January 19, 2023. It is reposted below with the author’s kind permission.
Taken together, these four essays totally debunk the empty attacks against the great man who helped found our country.
