Survivors or thrivers? Questioning residential school testimonies
The lightly edited piece found on the other side of the paywall was written by yours truly and published by a prominent national news and opinion site on January 30, 2023.
It deals with a largely neglected but critically important Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) of Canada issue, namely the credibility of the testimonies of the 6,500-7,000 Indian Residential School “survivors” who told their stories at TRC hearings.
My conclusion is that many, perhaps most, so-called survivors were actually IRS thrivers compared to their brethren never granted the opportunity to attended these free boarding schools.
