The piece on the other side of the paywall defending the reputations of Christian missionaries and other individuals “dedicated to the care and teaching of children within Canada’s Indian Residential Schools (IRS) [who] have been lumped in with the few perverts in their midst and vilified with the most outrageous smears” was written by Rory Leishman (roryleishman@gmail.com), a freelance journalist based in London, Ontario.
Leishman is the author of Against Judicial Activism: The Decline of Freedom and Democracy in Canada, (Montreal and Kingston: McGill-Queen’s University Press, 2006).
In 1997, Leishman received the William Kurelek Award from Alliance for Life "in recognition of an outstanding contribution to the development of respect and appreciation for the dignity and worth of human life."
In May, 2000, he was honoured with the Furedy Academic Freedom Award from the Society for Academic Freedom and Scholarship for his contributions to public understanding of academic freedom.
