Was 'Canada the genocidal state' just Chinese propaganda?

The opinion piece on the other side of the paywall was written by prolific editorial writer and former Province of Manitoba judge Brian Giesbrecht.

Published by a prominent media outlet on March 3, 2023, Giesbrecht focuses on the way the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has used a compliant Justin Trudeau as its useful political idiot.

Giesbrecht makes the following credible (but unproven) suggestion:

[D]id his [Trudeau’s] “confession” [that Canada is a genocidal state] make sense, if we recognize how beholden his Liberals now look to the CCP. Because with the genocide confession, Trudeau was largely relieved of the obligation to criticize the CCP’s truly genocidal practices. Simply put, he knew that the CCP would just throw his own “genocide” in his face if he did. He was off the hook.

This thoughtful and provocative essay from a thoughtful and provocative savant is required reading for anyone critical of the Liberal Party of Canada’s approach to the interplay between indigenous and international issues.
